Express Entry: The Canadian Experience Class

Eligibility Criteria

to qualify for The Canadian Experience Class

  • When applying for permanent residency under the Canadian Experience Class, you must find the correct National Occupational Classification (NOC) code that matches your primary occupation. The National Occupational Classification group jobs based on skill type, primary duties and occupational requirement. The jobs are group as follows Managerial jobs (skill type 0), Professional jobs (skill level A) or Technical jobs and skilled trades (skill level B).
  • You must also have a minimum of one year of skilled work experience in the last 3 years in one of these skill types Managerial jobs (skill type 0), Professional jobs (skill level A) or Technical jobs and skilled trades (skill level B). Persons who qualified under the Canadian Experience Class are persons who are temporarily working in Canada. For example, students that have completed one year of studies in Canada and are currently working on their post-graduate work permit and person on temporary work permits.

After finding the correct NOC code that matches your job description, you must obtain a reference letter from your previous employer or current employer before you apply for Express Entry. The reference letter will be needed when you get an invitation to apply for permanent residence. The reference letter should be on the company letterhead, with the company name, address, contact number, and email address. The letter must state the primary duties that you have performed while working with the company.

Language Ability

  • You will need to take an approved language test and get the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) for English. The test will evaluate your abilities in writing, reading, listening and speaking. The minimum score you need to get to apply under the Canadian Experience Class is Canadian Language Benchmark 7 for The National Occupational Classification (NOC) 0 or A Job type or Canadian Language Benchmark 5 for NOC B job type.

Register and take an IELTS exam

Education

  • Education is not a requirement for the Canadian Experience Class. However, you may improve your rank in the Express Entry pool if you attended a recognized institution in Canada and possesses a certificate, diploma, or degree.

  • If you have a foreign degree, diploma, masters, Ph.D. or certificate from outside Canada
    you should get your credentials to assess by a designated
    organization to make sure that your education is equal to a Canadian certificate, diploma or degree.
